Akhorn Team

The Akhorn Team works with girls and women rescued from sex trafficking in refugee camps in the Middle East. They provide counseling, training, medical aid and a safe house for women who have left or rescued from the sex trade.

Did you know that the average length of stay in a refugee camp is 18 years? That’s right. Eighteen years. A child could be born and come of age in a refugee tent. Most recently another wave of thousands of refugees have fled to the camps which the Akhorn Team serves.

There are many ways that orphans and widows need care. Like us, they have love languages. The Akhorn Team excel in showing love. These people still live in tents in a UN refugee camp. Eight years in, and the land they love, their own homeland, is still a war zone. Most of those here are widows and orphans, or girls rescued from ISIS, who raped them. The Akhorn Team brings them tangible expressions of your love. Sometimes this means solar lights and bucket water filters. Sometimes it’s kerosene and blankets. One church funded a mobile medical clinic where they can serve these people. The team also helps widows start small businesses, disciples new Believers, and provides training for teens to work with each other across cultural and historical boundaries that used to seperate them.

The Akhorn Team is focused in Northern Iraq. They've been there for years, as part of the local church, led by local pastors. Often it’s the weakest widows, orphans, children, elderly and handicapped who need a safe place. The many teen girls who have been trafficked by ISIS or others is staggering. The Akhorn Team have a safe house for the most vulnerable. This community excels in wisely reaching as many as they can with the funds they receive!

These people have lost everything and need a new community who will embrace them, help them heal, and walk with them into a new future. Frequently women and girls, rescued from ISIS arrive pregnant. There are at least 800 orphans who need monthly sponsorship. By orphans we mean complete orphans; children with neither parent.

The Akhorn believe in loving the least, and do it faithfully. It's beautiful to see that the local church is on fire with love for these people. It is now also a church full of those of these refugees who have been able to see their lives transformed. Their testimonies are the fuel for new love and outreach, fresh miracles and healing. Thank you for being part of this transformation ... turning what the enemy meant for evil into something glorious!
