In a detailed study of how many people open important emails pertaining to global issues - and click through to do follow up, it is apparent that most readers live in a media saturated world. It may be advisable that those seriously concerned about changing their world seek to adapt their media diet to prevent overload. Serious side effects of overload include the addiction to indifference and skimming. Skimming is a malady that can be described as just barely reading material, and absorbing so little that it can be dismissed with little emotional change. Adapting the media diet is crucial in an era when the banter of radio, white noise of TV, and barrage of printed matter in our various inboxes hits our overload buttons. We need to make an intentional choice to eliminate any or all of those elements in our environment which are deadening our emotional capacity to respond to real issuesl. Otherwise we risk being labeled not only the fattest country in the world, but also the dullest. Without discernment and choice, we can not truly be responsive. There is such a thing as too much. Perhaps it is time to click thru on issues that will make our lives matter eternally. We may find that we have little time left for banter.
