Marvin
Around the world one hears stories of desperate mothers, made pregnant by rape and caught in cultural situations where bringing a child home would not be acceptable. In some countries this is being wisely addressed. One reality is that this baby’s life matters. It was not his or her fault that they were conceived, and for every child that is unwanted, there are adoptive parents who are willing and eager to care for and love children.
Marvin is an example of success in progress. Miss Claudia started the Orlindi Home in a city in a Southern African country. The home currently has 48 children, and Marvin is one of them. He was found dying in the trash pile, as were each and everyone of these precious children. Some of the kids are now in their mid-teens, some are a month old. Each one is loved. Marvin, however, was a bit of a challenge. He was born with spina bifida and, with a full house, Miss Claudia did not have the time to do therapy with him, nor the finances to pay for a therapist.
Cross Cultural Connections board members are placed strategically in various regions, and one of our Board Member couples volunteers regularly at Orlindi, playing with the kids, bringing in treats like oranges, and helping Miss Claudia out. They noticed Marvin and saw to it that he got the therapy he needed. He is now three and can walk on his own and feed himself. His hand to eye coordination is right on target for his age, and he is learning to communicate. We are thrilled with his progress.
We also love it that our CCC Board Members are both macro and micro. They serve grassroots and local, and also pitch in to work towards the overall vision and goal of Cross Cultural Connections. We look forward to seeing Marvin thrive and become the young man God created him to be!!
